WARRINGON Athletics Club's women's track and field team are in danger of being relegated from the Northern Women's Division Three West League.

They had a poor turnout for the league's second match at Cleckheaton on Sunday.

The team finished sixth on the day and will need to take more points from the final two outings if they are to beat the drop.

In the opening field event on Sunday, debutant Joanne Armstrong excelled in the hammer A competition. She took third place with a throw of 25.52 metres before securing second spot in the A discus with 29.88m, fifth in the A shot putt with 7.58m and fourth in the A javelin with 24m.

Claire Irons finished as runner-up in the B hammer with a good throw of 22.33m. She also came fourth in the 3,000 metres A in 14.08 minutes, fifth in the 100m B in 17.4 seconds and sixth in the B javelin with 7.56m.

Emma Makin won the 100m A hurdle event in 69.7secs and finished fifth in a high class 100m A race in 13.9secs.

Emma Dartnel also shone. She came third in the 800m A in 2.31mins, fifth in the 400m A in 69.30secs, fourth in the 200m B in 31.2secs, fifth in the long jump A with 3.39m and fifth in the high jump A with 1.10m.

In the 1,500m A race, Sarah Vandewalle ran well in windy conditions to finish third in 5.26mins while Suzanne Andrews had a good run in the 800m B.

She took fourth in 2.40mins and backed up the performance by finishing fifth in the 400m B in 70.0secs, fifth in the 200m A in 30.7secs, fifth in the B discus with 14.76m and fifth B in the long jump with 2.85m.
