ONCE A Catholic by Mary O'Malley, the warm hearted comedy relives the trials and tribulations of a 1950's convent school education. Produced by the New Vic Theatre, the play runs until June 28.
Innocent Mary Mooney, saucy Mary McGinty and pert Mary Gallagher are fifth formers at the Convent School of Our Lady of Fatima. Their lives are ruled over by hard-as-nails Mother Peter, gimlet-eyed Mother Basil and the iron fist in the velvet glove of the all-seeing Mother Thomas Aquinas.
But it's the 1950s and teenagers have just been invented! So now's the time for our three young friends to enjoy rebellion and adventure as they avoid the combined attentions of nuns and Father Mullarky to discover boys, the facts of life and the corrupting influence of Elvis 'The Pelvis' Presley!
The New Vic cast includes: Janine Birkett as Mother Peter, Clare Corbett as Mary Gallagher, Nazim Kourgli as Derek, Tess Mawle as Mary McGinty, Lousia McCarthy as Mary Mooney, Paul McCleary as Father Mullarkey/Mr Emanuelli, James Millard as Cuthbert, Michele Moran as Mother Thomas Aquinas and Yvonne O'Grady as Mother Basil.
