A MAN charged with attempted murder has gone on the run after escaping from Warrington Crown Court this morning, Friday.

David Dawson, aged 24, from Halton Road in West Point, Runcorn, fled from the courtroom and jumped from a first floor window in the building in Legh Street.

An eyewitness said: "He dived over onto the table and slipped, knocking over the water and falling into the microphone. He then stood up and went out of the door."

A police spokesman said on Friday afternoon: "We have not yet recaptured the man. We have got a lot of officers out in Warrington looking for him.

"He was in court for a remand hearing."

Det Ch Insp Richard Strachan, head of Warrington CID, said: "We would appeal to the public for help in tracing this man and would warn people not to approach him."

Dawson, who was arrested back in April, is charged with attempted murder and an alternative charge of wounding with intent.

He is described as being stocky with a shaven head, 5ft 9in tall and wearing a blue shirt.

Anyone with information should call Warrington police on 652222.
