EARLESTOWN Snooker League leaders Bryn Labour suffered a rare defeat this week.

They lost only their third game of the season after under performing at Vicars.

The jubilant home side had the last four winners in Tommy Wood, Mick Martin, Peter Cogan and Eric Haselton.

Second-placed Haydock Catholic A were held to a draw at Haydock Reading Room B.

Third-placed Stubshaw Cross Labour also had to settle for a share of the spoils this week when they came up against Golborne Catholic.

Newton Social A returned to winning ways when they triumphed 4-2 at Haydock Catholic B. They had the first three winners in Gordon Canning, Mark Dinsdale and Lee Canning. Haydock's best performer was John Hart, who overcame Tony Kelly.

St. Pats beat Newton Social B 4-2 on their own turf. The match winner was John Moorhouse, who saw off the challenge from Steve Potts in the final frame.

Viaduct drew with Beer Engine while honours also ended even between Garswood Labour and North Ashton.

The highest break in the league so far stands at 72 and was made by Des Myler, of Stubshaw Cross Labour.

The players with the most wins to their names are Scott Wall, of North Ashton, and Lee Cunliffe, of Bryn Labour. They have both prevailed in 23 games and will be desperate to record a win in their final outing.
