ALTHOUGH our 'Glorious Saints' have had a poor season by their high standards, I must congratulate our local authors who keep us up with the excitement and cut and thrust of the great league game, and those who make us chuckle as well.
I refer to the fine effort by A. Quirke on Duggie Laughton and the great Kevin Ward story 'No Pain No Gain'.
Denis Whittle and Alex Service keep us up to date with excellent books on the Saints exploits of the past and as for chuckling I enjoyed Ray French's effort 'League Tales' while John Vose's 'Give it to Kelly' is full of laughs and down to earth Lancashire backgrounds.
We rugby league buffs have plenty to satisfy us this Christmas with great reading for the winter days ahead.
Well done to all our local pen pushers.
CHARLES Coburn, Rainford.
