Warrington RUFC 30
Birchfield RUFC 13
AFTER surrendering a 13-0 half-time lead, Warrington managed to recapture their early form to beat a gritty Birchfield side on Saturday.
Higham opened the scoring in the Rugby Football Union South Lancashire/Cheshire One clash on his debut. Warrington's winger touched down following slick passing between the backs.
Gary Tees extended Warrington's lead by putting the finishing touches to an impressive maul and a Drinkwater penalty goal gave the home side a healthy half-time advantage.
However, Birchfield hit back with a vengeance in the second half. They took advantage of a lack of organisation in Warrington's ranks to level the scores before a Kellet try calmed the home side's nerves.
He crossed the whitewash following a driving five-yard scrum and West wrapped up Warrington's win with a try which was put on a plate for him by Louden.
Drinkwater added the extras. He also knocked over a penalty in the second half while Warrington's best performers were the powerful running Tees, the hard tackling Callender and the clever Kellet.
Warrington Seconds suffered a 26-20 away day defeat at the hands of Wilmslow's strong second string despite scoring excellent tries via Turner and skipper Savage.
