OVER the past four weeks police have asked people to take part in their on-line discussion about anti-social behaviour.

The discussion was linked to the Government's publication of an action plan including trailblazer action areas, specialist prosecutors and a £75 million cash boost for local authorities and communities.

Cheshire's Chief Constable, Peter Fahy, said: "We have achieved some significant results in tackling anti-social behaviour, and will continue to demonstrate a robust approach in its dealings with such incidents.

"I welcome the Government's action plan, but would emphasise that enforcement is not the only response in dealing with anti-social behaviour by individuals. Some young people appear out of control, while others act out of boredom, often not realising the effects of their actions on others.

"There is a growing gap between young people and older people - and a way needs to be found to bridge this gap."

One resident from Warrington who visited the site commented: "I live on a bungalow estate in Fearnhead. Even at 59 I am one of the younger members of the population here. Our lives have become a misery.

"The local youths use the park at the end of this estate for their drinking etc. The problem is worse at weekends especially Fridays when up to 60 youths, both male and female, walk from the local shops where they are supplied either directly or by third parties, with vast amounts of alcohol.

"They then walk down to the park I referred to earlier. On the return journey they cause mayhem, damaging fences, throwing stones and fireworks at windows and vehicles, urinating against house walls and generally causing a nuisance. Anyone approaching them is subject to torrents of abuse."
