Hamit Honno, 28, and Nassour Vichara, 26, from Empress Court, Old Trafford, both died when the Toyota Corolla they were in collided with another car on the A556 at Bucklow Hill.

On Friday Cheshire Police said that inquests had been opened and adjourned into the deaths but could not confirm when they would take place.

Officers are still trying to piece together what happened before the crash at 5.30am.

"A lot of people did come forward with information immediately after the crash but we are still appealing for witnesses and would ask people to call if they can help in any way," said a spokesman.

Another 24-year-old man, who was thrown from the Corolla, is still in hospital with serious injuries and burns.

A 30-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, who were heading towards Chester in a Rover 75, were also seriously injured and are still being treated in hospital.

Last week the Knutsford Guardian told how a lorry driver, whose fuel tank fell off after it was shunted by one of the cars, ignored the risk and dragged a body from the Corolla.

He was badly shaken but is now back at work.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call 01244 612671.
