CREWE FC sealed one of their best ever victories, turning over league leaders Barnton 2-0 on their own turf, last Saturday.

Goals from Steve Parker and top scorer Dave Hanson gave the club their first ever win against the Mid Cheshire League perennial champions.

And it was no fluke as Ian O'Reilly's side bounced back from defeat to second-placed Middlewich in style, dominating early exchanges.

Pressure told as Allan Brown played in Parker who unleashed a crisp, low drive across the goal and past the keeper on 25 minutes.

Barnton hit the bar as they tried to get back into a match that Crewe were bossing.

Deputising for Steve Harding, Danny Reed kept up his record of clean sheets when in the Crewe goal, dealing with what little action he faced well.

Hanson wrapped up a memorable win as he jinked past the defender and beat the keeper clinically on 67 minutes.

"It was a great result and we're over the moon," said O'Reilly.

"We played really well and deserved the three points.

"It's our first win over them since we've been in this league.

"Last year we got two draws with them and we were pleased with that so you can imagine how we felt after the game.

"We're getting quite a little following going now and we had more there than they did on Saturday which is good to see."

Those three points lift them into eighth place and recent form suggests Crewe can finish in the top five.

"Realistically we can aim for fifth or sixth," added O'Reilly.

"I think we've only lost three in the last 18 or 19 games and that's some going.

"The lads have come of age and they now know they can beat teams like Barnton.

"We were a bit downbeat after losing against Middlewich but we responded well.

"Things are really looking up for the club."

Crewe entertain struggling Styal FC at the Cumberland Stadium, this Saturday.
