BROOKVALE junior school playing field is to be transformed as residents join forces for a mass community clean up.

Brookvale councillor Irene Ashley said: "We were getting complaints about kids playing football in the street and people were getting a bit fed up.

"But the school field wasn't safe for them to play on with people walking their dogs and dumping stuff."

This week the field is being cleaned of bigger items and the grass is being cut, before next Wednesday's clean up.

Halton Council has arranged for clean up packs from Keep Britain Tidy.

"We want to get the kids involved, because if they get involved they will keep it clean, and it will be available for them to play football on," said Cllr Ashley.

"What I'm really pleased about is all the different agencies have got together and everybody is helping - it's team work."

Everyone is invited to take part for as long as they want from 9.30am to 2.30pm, on Wednesday, April 21.

Volunteers should initially meet on the field by Ridding Lane, by the school.

Agencies taking part include Arena housing association staff and landscapers, Halton Council regeneration and neighbourhood services landscapers, staff and pupils from Brookvale School.

Also taking part will be Brookvale Residents Association, the Prince's Trust, Cllr Ashley and Halton's mayor, Cllr Ron Hignett.
