THE Major Cup competition the Bob Orme Challenge Cup was played at Pavilions Rec on Easter Monday between the two leading clubs in the premier division, Weston FC and Bridge Timber.

The match was closely fought with Bridge Timber taking a first half lead from the penalty spot through Steve Coady.

Weston had a penalty saved early in the second half but soon levelled matters with a free kick from Ian Walker.

Kevin Ward put Weston in front midway through the second half.

Albie Wilcox claimed the equaliser from a cleverly taken free kick.

The teams shared exchanges with Weston forcing the play in the second half.

With the teams level at full time 30 minutes of extra time faced two tiring teams.

Honours were even until a long-range shot from Ritchie James secured the cup for Bridge Timber.

The match was well officiated and well supported.

Mrs Orme presented the trophy, whilst Bob Orme's grandson Matty presented the Challenge Cup.

The final was played in an excellent spirit from two well-matched teams, who brought credit to the Runcorn Sunday League.
