THIS morning, I received my recycling bin, courtesy of St Helens Council. Actually, it was just a black box with a list of instructions on what to put in to my recycling bin. The list read, please use for, aluminium food and drinks cans, steel food and drink cans, glass bottles, glass jars. But advises, don't forget to remove all tops from bottles. Empty and rinse all jars, bottles and cans. Squash all cans before relocating them in the box. Also, I received a bag - a blue bag asking me would I put out my paper, except envelopes, and all sticky things - oh and cardboard. Also, I was given a black bag to put in any old clothes, which might benefit the Salvation Army. To be collected every other Thursday, which Thursday? It didn't say.
Also, could I please make sure the said collection is on my front pavement before 8.30am. So, to look on the bright side, does this mean, every other Thursday, I can have a lie in? Seriously though, the answer to your request is, yes, of course I will. Why? because I care about the environment, that's why.
But I can't help wondering, or hoping, will our efforts for town and planet mean we can expect a tiny reduction in our council tax? Or is that two pigs I've just seen flying over my roof?
