MERSEYSIDE Police regularly operate a speed trap at the junction of Borough Road and Enfield Street, St Helens as the two lane Borough Road is subject to a 30mph speed limit.
I have no problem with this. This speed limit has been set to protect the residents who live on either side or other motorists.
This same length of road also has double yellow lines along the full length of it on both sides. This means no waiting at any time. This measure has also been put in place as an aid to safety.
How is it then that the residents of Borough Road and their visitors are allowed to flout this particular aspect of road law? I travel up this road up to four times a day and have never yet seen it clear of parked vehicles. Why don't Merseyside Police issue fixed penalties for these illegally parked vehicles and double the safety of the road. After all, they have to drive past them to the spot where they operate their speed camera and could kill two birds with one stone.
