Swimmers draw with Northwich

WARRIORS of Warrington Swimming Club and Northwich finished as joint winners of the annual Postcode Relay Gala staged at Woolston Leisure Centre.

Warrington's young team of 38 swimmers won 12 of the 33 relays and finished first or second in all but six of the events against competitors from Northwich, Ormskirk, Newton and Trafford.

The winning Warriors were, in the nine years old and under section, A Tujeshyn, E Atherton, C Weaver, R Coy, S Swift, D Wass, C Smith, D Gamble and J Taylor; in the 10-year category, J Richardson, E Fox, F Bailey, R Byrne, G Stirton, R Miller, L Vinton and A Phillips; in the 11-year group, B Pike, S Smith, J Bretherton, V Sulyak and J Clarke; in the 12-year bracket, F Hodgkins, A Verdon, N Howarth, K Corcoran and C O'Brien.

Spring silvers

SIX silver medals were won by Warriors of Warrington swimmers in the Liverpool and District 50 metres Spring Championships at Everton Park Sports Centre.

Nine-year-old Charlotte Dickinson was the most successful of the Warriors' contingent as she won three silver medals from her four races. Her silvers came in the nine-year girls' freestyle, backstroke and fly races.

Other silver medallists were Luke Joseph in the 10-year boys' freestyle; James Cox, in the 12-year boys' breaststroke and Sean Halpin in the 12-year butterfly. Sean also won Warriors' sole bronze medal in the backstroke.

Busy schedule

ROPE and Anchor under 7s soccer side have played four matches in eight days.

The week started with a 3-1 win at Birchwood, followed by a 3-0 defeat against Crewe Academy two hours later, a 4-3 success against East Leigh and then a 5-5 draw with Manchester City Academy.

Rope are due to attend the Liverpool FC Festival of Football in July and are looking for a couple of new players. Contact manager Steve Kennedy on 07890 451825 for more details.

Bowls Merit

WARRINGTON Public Parks' Bowls League's Merit will take place at Victoria Park's number one and two greens on April 28 at 6.30pm.

The entrance fee is £3 and games will be 21-up off level. To book, contact Derek on 415089.

Junior League

THE 2004 Estellevillas.com Junior Bowls League season kicks off at Orford Park on Saturday.

In addition to the league matches, coaches and instructors from the British Crown Green Bowls Association will be on hand to give free bowls lessons. The action starts at 9.30am and boys and girls are welcome to attend.

Note mistakes

WARRINGTON and North Cheshire bowlers should note that there are mistakes in this year's association handbook.

The Friday league date should read May 14 and not May 9, Crosfields B's Friday league team do not have floodlights but Eagle B's Monday league team do and the annual meeting will be held in January 2005 not 2004.
