I AGREE with a recent letter 'Stop Moaning'.

Too many people like nothing better than to moan about improvements made in the town, instead of recognising it has changed vastly from only 10 years ago.

Whether some like it or not, it has been the council that has driven the improvements through and many of them on the council do a good job for our town.

I would just like to list a few examples of what I mean.

Where I live in Upton we had a 50mph road. The local councillors worked with local people and got it lowered to 30mph. They also got crossings by two local schools.

They had the subway filled in near St Basil's school and vandal proof shelters put up at most stops. They had the junction of Arley Drive with Hough Green Road completed, which had been left since the 'D' estates were built.

In the council house estates they have always pressed for money for housing and the maisonettes which used to blot our area have now all been demolished or converted and replaced by new homes. I am sure the flats won't be far from being improved.

Helping local groups isn't a rarity for our councillors either. Groups like Upton 2000, the girl guides and the local bingo club will testify to that. There are no speed cameras in our area either.

There are many other improvements they have helped bring about but there probably wouldn't be enough space to list them.

All in all, the three councillors in our area do a good job. They may not be perfect but they do well as far as I'm concerned.

If people have councillors who are not doing a good job, then they can deal with that at election time. Running the town down in the local newspaper though is a different matter.
