Woolston Rovers 52

Haresfinch 6

WOOLSTON Rovers turned in another exceptional performance to outclass Haresfinch in their penultimate North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division One game of the season.

Rovers were in control right from the word go and they opened the scoring in the second minute when slick passing created an overlap for second rower Jamie Clarke to force his way over out wide.

Hooker Wes Lawton scored from acting half back four minutes later.

Haresfinch hit back with a classy converted try but it was one-way traffic from then on in.

Rovers led 34-6 at the half-time break thanks to tries by Clarke, two, full back Chris Mellor and centre Scott Davidson.

The home side were equally impressive in the second half and they reached a half century of points thanks to tries by winger Matt Taylor, substitutes David Keane and Clint Rylance plus full back Mark Roughneen.

Mellor knocked over six conversions and Rovers' man of the match was Clarke.

The hat-trick hero celebrated his call up to the BARLA Great Britain under 21s side with a first class performance and was given good support by stand off Craig Harris, Roughneen and Keane.

Team: Mark Roughneen; Mike Bright, Paul Berry, Scott Davidson, Matt Taylor; Craig Harris, Steve Smythe; Nick Glenn, Wes Lawton, Andy Addison, Jamie Clarke, Ben Heaton, Chris Mellor. Subs: Mike Walker, Mark Wareing, Clint Rylance, David Keane.

Rovers play Rylands at Bennett's Recreation Ground in their final league game of the season on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
