CHESHIRE Hawthorne are the Warrington Sunday Soccer League Premier Cup winners for 2004.

The Warrington side defeated Halton Arms 2-1 in Good Friday's showdown at Cantilever Park.

Hawthorne's success came the hard way as they had a full back sent off in the second half, lost another player with a broken leg and hit the woodwork three times before the game ended at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

With one minute to go in the first half of extra time the Halton goalkeeper held down an attacker and Craig Marshall stepped up to convert the penalty kick.

In the second half of extra time Hawthorne substitute Paul Wright put the ball low into the corner of the Halton net to make it 2-0.

Halton did not give up and were rewarded with Kevin Patterson's lobbed goal to add a little suspense to the final moments.

Cheshire Hawthorne's goalkeeper Craig Clare was honoured with the man of the match award by the Sunday League officials.
