WARRINGTON Schools' Soccer League Cup finals staged at Warrington Town's Cantilever Park ground produced some excellent action and a surprise too.

Gareth Humphries broke the deadlock for the league champions Penketh in the year seven final against Great Sankey but they went on to lose their first game of the season.

Four minutes into the second half Matthew Colley levelled the match and in the 63rd minute Matt Dodd struck an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to seal Sankey's victory.

William Beamont Community School won two finals.

Their year eight side added the league cup to their league and Cheshire Cup successes by beating St Gregorys 3-0.

The game was run by Beamont midfielder Mike Steward, but despite Beamont's early dominance it was 0-0 at half-time.

Beamont showed their class in the second period. Danny Brown nodded home Scott Nevin's corner to make it 1-0.

Steward found the corner of the goal with a left footed shot to make it 2-0 and Nevin capped off a brilliant individual performance with a stunning 20-yard strike that cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar.

William Beamont outplayed St Gregorys in the year nine final and gained a 4-1 win.

A brace from Beamont striker Eddie Vaughan, a delightful lob from Liam Duffy and a slotted shot from Curtis saw off a spirited St Gregorys side, who fought until the end and deserved their late consolation goal through Andy Lane's deflected effort.

Great Sankey's year 11 players ended their school careers with a 2-1 win against Padgate.

Jonny Kirwan grabbed the winner with 10 minutes to go thanks to a superb strike.

Padgate broke the deadlock through Kevin Penny's left footed shot which was fired across Sankey goalkeeper Steven Picton and into the net. Sankey equalised through winger Chris Quirk's half volley on the turn.
