CARP action has again been dominant in Lymm Angling Club's fishery reports this week.

One water that has been improving each year as a carp venue is Shakerley Mere, where several of our night permit holders enjoyed sport comparable to anywhere else in the country at the weekend.

Member Johnny Holland landed a mighty trio of 20 pounders over Sunday night and Monday morning with his first run at twilight resulting in a mirror carp of 23lbs.

His second fish, another mirror weighing more than 20lbs, came at 11.45pm but his biggest fish was a common carp which pulled his scales down to 24lbs shortly before daybreak.

Johnny caught all of his fish fairly close in and they all succumbed to fish flavoured boilies.

Other anglers put up a good challenge but only one of them caught a fish above the 20lbs barrier.

The biggest fish of the week did not come from Shakerley Mere though. It was taken at Founders Pool by Dave Hampshire, whose long cast to overhanging trees resulted in a 26lbs monster.

Dave could see activity in his swim as light faded and he took the opportunity to bait it up before the onset of darkness.

Dave caught the fish an hour later. He described it as one of the fastest and most violent takes he has ever experienced.

Over on Belmont Pool, Lee Birdsall scored a fabulous duo with both of his fish firmly into the 20lbs bracket. They came within an hour of each other in the early evening.

On Friday night our bailiff patrol squad withdrew three licences due to the multiple rule infringements of three anglers concerned.

Night patrol supervisor Paul Rylance said: "This was not a good result to go out and have to withdraw licences but unfortunately it has to be done to protect the club's rights."

Members should be aware that rod licences were due for renewal at the end of last month. Do not get caught by club or Environment Agency bailiffs without an up to date licence.

Sandybank Pool has been producing some good fish with several carp landed along with decent bream, roach, perch and the odd tench.

Action has also been good on the adjacent Sandy Pool and the best methods have been pole fished worm, caster or small pieces of bread flake.

Small wagglers have also been scoring well at the two Sandbach venues.

I have had a lot of subscription renewals sent in this week. This has probably been due to the good Bank Holiday weather and it has created a backlog.

I will work to clear this backlog as soon as possible.

Subscriptions can still be paid in the ways described on the subscription reminder notices which were sent out in February.
