WARRINGTON Anglers' Association's Grey Mist Mere has rewarded members this week.

Ian Murray, aged 12, beat his personal best carp of 19lbs with a mirror of 22lbs 8ozs 0drms from the Mere on Sunday.

Bailiff Paul Marsden float-fished double maggot at the venue on Tuesday and had tench up to 6-11-0.

Tench were still feeding well over the holiday weekend at Rixton Claypits with Phil Locket reporting a catch of six fish, all between 4lbs and 5lbs.

Dave Arbuckle had a fin perfect common carp of 20lbs on boilie. The level is now back to normal and there is more colour in the water which should encourage fish to feed.

The tench and crucians provided the main sport for members at Cicily Mill Pool with individual catches to 15lbs. Caster and maggot seemed to work better than meat or corn.

Anglers have started to target the bream at Sandiway Lakes but the best reported so far this week was only 8lbs - this fishery is capable of producing a fish double this weight!

Brian Conroy had a good net of skimmers all taken on caster from the Bridgewater Canal on Saturday.

Eric Campbell had two chub weighing in at 4-6-0 and 4-11-0 from the canal at Moore. He fed caster and was catching skimmers when he lost a good fish. Thinking it was a carp he changed his rig presenting double caster tight against the brambles to take the two fish in successive casts.

The Monday match on the Sankey St Helens Canal at Carter House was won by Geoff Shaw with three bream and a few roach for 11lbs 4ozs 0drms but most members struggled for a few roach while watching fish getting ready for spawning in the reeds. The bream were sporting spawning nodules.

Bailiffs have reported that a few members have been fishing with unpaid membership cards. The rule is quite simple, no pay, no play.
