CREWE'S Luke Varney is hoping to make an impact in the final four games as he sets his sights on more First Division action next season.

The 21-year striker impressed in his first real stint in the full side over an injury hit Christmas but his progress was checked after dislocating his shoulder in January's FA Cup exit to Telford.

Expected to be out for the rest of this campaign, the former Quorn FC player has battled back well and was on the bench against Coventry on Easter Monday.

"I feel stronger than before," he explained.

"I've put more weight on in muscle and I've been doing some gymnastics and dance!

"The lads have given me a bit of jip but it's all beneficial.

"I've been learning how to land and get up without pushing up on my shoulder.

"I think I did reasonably well in the six or so games I played and I'm hoping to make an impact in the last four."

Varney has had to watch his teammates struggle in the league ever since but he's confident they'll stay in Division One.

"I thought we did well against Coventry and it was all important to get the points," he added.

"The lads realise where we want to be and we realise we deserve to be in this league."

He's hoping, as we all are, that Crewe can beat the drop with victory at Reading.

"Reading will be the one when we hope to seal it, then we've got Palace at home," he continued.

"Every game looks tough and a point should do it but we'll be going for the win.

"I just want to play as many minutes as I'm needed for in the last four games, work hard and look to have a good season next year."
