A YOUNG photographer will help to educate her school friends about the dangers of fire after being at the scene of a derelict pub blaze.

Becky Long, aged 11, of Orchard Brow in Hollins Green, rushed down the road to the Eagle and Child with her camera when fire broke out last Wednesday.

She took photographs, then downloaded the music from children's cartoon Fireman Sam and made a video montage of her shots for a project set by her school, St Helens Primary.

Her mum Jayne said: "She had to write a story to take back to school, but she doesn't like writing so decided to kill two birds with one stone and do it this way.

"When she goes back to school she will give a presentation of her work. The building is really unsafe now so it will act as a warning to the children to stay away.

"It was fantastic to see her enthusiasm and I am very proud of her. I can see a career in photography ahead!"

The fire at the former pub on Wednesday was the second in a week, causing severe damage to the walls and the roof of the building.

It is believed the incident could be arson. The building, in Manchester Road, has been a target for vandals since it closed last year and has been used as a den by youngsters.
