WHEN Steven Broomhead moved to Renaissance House, he thought his days of being stopped in the street were over.

But how wrong he was.

In the 12 months since he left the Town Hall, Mr Broomhead says he is still stopped on Bridge Street, even now that he has moved to Preston.

He said: "Even a couple of months ago, I was still being asked what is the number for this, or what shall I do about this.

"I really like Warrington and I am still involved with the rugby club, which I am really proud of."

As a board member of Warrington Wolves, he said he is delighted with how well things are going. And after being instrumental in working with the club when he was at the council, he said he was excited about the future.

He added: "The success vindicates the decision that the council took to continue to invest and support the club through the difficult times."

But he said his biggest regret was not doing more to alleviate the transport gridlock that regularly grips Warrington, commenting: "There is a lot of work to be done and it is something that the agency might want to help the council with."

Another former council employee who now works at the NWDA is Bernice Law, who worked as Mr Broomhead's deputy at the Town Hall.

She said while she is excited by the different challenge at the NWDA, she missed the day-to-day involvement of working with the council.

She said: "The biggest thing I miss is the involvement in emergency planning. I no longer get calls in the middle of the night. But I have been involved in the petrol crisis and the flooding and it is quite a responsibility. You miss being part of the community."
