Mr Joseph Turner, husband of Mrs Lilly Turner, died on February 12, aged 86.
Mr Turner, of Oak Street, Croft, lived in Croft all his life.
He was first employed as a farm worker for 22 years, then with Lancashire County Council, and later Cheshire CC Highways Department, working as a road man for 29 years, the last five years as a lengthsman in Croft.
He was a sidesman, then church warden and treasurer of Christ Church, Croft, for 50 years, secretary of Croft Burial Society (The Penny Club) for 25 years, and trustee of the Naylor Trust for eight years.
Mr Turner enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and vegetables, reading, crosswords, and the company of his family and friends.
He leaves his wife, a son, a daughter, two granddaughters and a grandson.
A service was held on February 19 at Christ Church, followed by interment in the churchyard. The Rev Canon Dick Williams officiated, assisted by the Rev Chris Stafford and the Rev Beryl Smart.
Arrangements were made by Co-operative Funeral Services.
