Mrs Muriel Gillespie, wife of the late Mr James Gillespie, died of a cerebrovascular accident on March 5, aged 88.

Mrs Gillespie, of Lovely Lane, formerly of Priestley Street, lived in Warrington all her life.

She was first employed at Warrington Shirt Works and after her marriage worked at home as a seamstress. She was an active member of the Workingmen's Mission Church and its recreation club. She raised funds for the 31st Warrington Scouts and the Scout Band, and was awarded the medal of honour by the Scouts Association for her work for them.

Mrs Gillespie and her late husband enjoyed ballroom dancing, and also helped to establish Scottish dancing classes at the Workingmen's Mission, where she taught generations of children.

Mrs Gillespie leaves two sons, three grandchildren and a brother.

A service was held on March 15 at the Workingmen's Mission, followed by cremation at Walton Lea, and interment at St Barnabas' Church. The Rev Ron Davies officiated.
