ANOTHER of the borough's teenage tearaways has been placed under an Anti-social Behaviour order.

Police secured the order against Ben Baines, 13, of Station Road, Haydock at Knowsley Magistrates' Court.

Along with St Helens Council's Safer Communities Service, they gathered 26 statements about Baines and other youths who the council says were "making the lives of residents a misery".

Baines could face up to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, if he breaches the order. The ASBO states he must not enter Wrigley Road and Lyme Street, Haydock, or use threatening, abusive, insulting or intimidating language or behaviour in a public place.

The order also bans Baines from indecently exposing himself in public, climbing onto roofs of any buildings, and lighting fires that might endanger the public or damage property. He will also breach the ban if he throws or kicks anything at residents, passers-by or neighbours' windows.

Inspector Peter Mallet, who patrols the Haydock neighbourhood, said: " This is a powerful message to local communities demonstrating that together we can make a difference and take action to address anti-social behaviour.

"Information from the public has been vital in securing this ASBO and we will continue to target issues which impact on the lives of our residents."

Councillor Ken Pinder, St Helens Council's executive member for community safety, added: "ASBOs are proof that residents are successfully stopping unacceptable behaviour.

"I'm very pleased with this latest success and hope it goes some way to assuring the residents in the borough that we will continue to crackdown on individuals or groups causing anti-social problems."

POLICE request that if anyone sees Baines breaking any of the conditions of his Anti-social Behaviour order they should contact the police on 0151 777 6969.
