THE mum of a former promising teenage rugby player paralysed in a freak tackle more than seven years ago, is furious that his carers' cars were vandalised by louts.

Christine Bryan said her son Luke has two carers who work in shifts around the clock to help look after his needs at his Haydock home. She explained: "Luke's doing really well. He is settled and happy.

One of the carers went to his car about eight o'clock in the morning to find a big scratch all down the side of it. The other carer said that the same thing happened to him a couple of nights earlier.

"I am ashamed and embarrassed. I feel like making an example of those responsible."

Neighbours are getting increasingly angry over the attacks and have been urged to report any culprits.

Forty-six-year-old Christine has lived in Haydock all her life and although she admitted this latest incident is demoralising, she praised the spirit of the people.

"When we were in a desperate situation with Luke, the community supported us and were very understanding.

The carers won't stop coming but one did say he will have to get an old banger because he doesn't want to park it in front of the house." Christine said that their own car is vandalised about once a month. The wing mirror is repeatedly bashed and the car doors scratched.

She added: "I'm not asking for bobbies on the beat, but what's wrong with having them in a car?"
