Bold Miners A 30 Rylands A 23 BOLD again took the spoils in their penultimate game of the league campaign but they were given a scare by their Warrington opponents.

The home side started well with Gareth Mercer capitalising on a defensive blunder to score under the sticks, goaled by Mark Saunders.

Saunders himself scored next after a blockbusting run and splendid off-load by prop John Mayor.

Rylands then stunned Bold with two converted tries before good play by Gary Talbot saw John Mayor stretch over for a try.

Again the visitors hit back with another converted try but a typical Talbot surge from dummy-half levelled it up again.

Rylands edged ahead with a one-pointer but top try scorer Lee Mayor raced in for his 17th of the season with Saunders converting to make it 24-19 to Bold.

The Miners finally made sure of the spoils when evergreen loose-forward Dave Davies blasted his way through several tacklers for a great try, converted by Saunders.

Rylands grabbed a late consolation try.

The QED man of the match for Bold was Gary Talbot, with fine support from Dave Davies, John Mayor and Andy Fairhurst, with youngsters Ian Webster and Mike Noonan also worthy of mention.
