THE UK's number one tribute to Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is in town next week.

Rainbow Rising hit the Limelight on Friday, April 30.

No disrespect to die-hard fans but arguably Rainbow's greatest hits are now probably more well known than the band itself.

A case of 'did they do that'.

Blackmore left the legendary Deep Purple in '75 and formed Rainbow one year later to mixed fortunes early on as consistent line-up changes took their toll.

The second album 'Rainbow Rising' earned respect and while fifth release 'Down To Earth' was considered one of their weaker efforts, it did spawn one of those aforementioned classics - 'Since You've Been Gone'.

Seen by many as their high point 'Difficult To Cure' provided their biggest hit in 'I Surrender' in '81.

Rainbow ended three years later due to the Purple reunion although the name has been resurrected in a number of different line-ups, resulting in the '95 recording 'Stranger In Us All'.

Top tribute Rainbow Rising formed one year on and recreate the unique sound and visual spectacle that made the originals' live stage show so special.

See them from 9.30pm, tickets are £6.
