ALSAGER Town ended the season on a winning note with a 3-1 victory at sixth from bottom Ramsbottom.

The mid-week success saw Alsager end the season in ninth place, 20 points adrift of the top four.

They had the best defence in Division One, conceding just 47 goals in 42 games.

However their lack of goals cost them dear, having drawn 15 games, more than any other team.

Alsager took the lead on 12 minutes with a Kinsey shot parried into his path by the keeper, and firing home from the rebound.

Ramsbottom equalised 13 minutes later in virtually their only attack of the match, when the Alsager defence failed to deal with a long ball and Buggie scored.

Hurley made it 2-1 for Alsager three minutes into the second half with a shot from six yards out after connecting with a ball from Kinsey.

Alsager effectively killed off Ramsbottom with a third goal just four minutes later, Brotherton heading home a Kinsey corner.

Kinsey is Alsager's leading scorer this season with 24 goals, 17 of which have come in the league, ranking him ninth in the table of the league's top scorers.

Alsager manager Greg Clowes said he was hoping to win promotion next season, and is seeking two new strikers to help in that ambition.
