PEOPLE wanting to get into shape will be able to take advantage of Leigh's new sports village, after multi-million pound plans were approved on Friday.

The £43m plan to transform sporting and leisure facilities in Leigh will create more than 2,000 jobs plus a further 400 while the scheme is being built. Its 72-acre site at Marshall Street will include a 10,000-seat stadium, a new building for the Leigh campus of Wigan and Leigh College, student housing, a sports hall and 400-metre running track with covered sprinting facility and field sports area, plus a cinema, health and fitness centre, restaurants and a ten-pin bowling alley.
