WARRINGTON'S very own blues club is expecting a wild weekend as it welcomes some class rhythm and blues acts to the town.

Topping the bill at the Loushers Lane club tomorrow, Friday, is Sugarland Slim - a band inspired by the sound of the 1930s 'bluesman' era, which uses traditional acoustic slide guitars, blues harmonica, and gritty vocals.

The band, which recently supported British blues legend, Peter Green, attempts to bring delta blues into the 21st century.

Also playing tomorrow is slide guitarist Tom Doughty and on Saturday the club has a return visit from a popular young blues prodigy.

Joanne Shaw Taylor, one of the few female blues guitarists in the country, was only 16-years-old when she stormed on to the UK music scene.

She has been selling out shows across the country and Dave Stewart, of the Eurythmics, said that he never thought he would hear a young white British girl play the blues so passionately.

Meanwhile preparations for this summer's Warrington Blues Festival, on Saturday, June 12, at Sir Thomas Boteler High School, are in full swing.

Among the acts confirmed are Geoff Achison and the UK Souldiggers and Lightnin Willie and the Poor Boys.

Tickets for this weekend cost £10 for one night, or £15 for both, while tickets for June's festival cost £25.
