GOLBORNE Cricket Club began their 2004 league campaign with a creditable draw at Blackrod.

They restricted the home side to 240 runs for the loss of six wickets. Golborne's best bowler was new professional Shah, who took three wickets for 79 runs.

Golborne made a bright start in reply. Tyrer and Crompton took the score to 25 without loss before the latter fell to a good catch from Namajee.

Marston, Shah and Brunt followed for one, 17 and seven respectively but Tyrer kept the score moving along.

He made 33 not out before bad light and rain brought a close to proceedings.

Golborne's innings finished on 85-4. They picked up six points from the game while Blackrod were given 10.

Golborne Seconds kicked off their campaign with a seven-wicket defeat at home to Blackrod's second string.

They were bowled out for only 125 despite a fine innings by Makinson.

He made 80 but was given little support and Blackrod hit their required runs with relative ease.

The wicket takers for Golborne were new captain Ian McMillan, Ormshaw and Carr.
