CREWE FC boss Ian O'Reilly bemoaned his side's lack of discipline as they were held 1-1 at home to lowly Styal FC, last Saturday.

Steve Parker saw red in an incident-ridden game as the home side lost their cool with, realistically, three points there for the taking.

Styal took a shock lead after keeper Steve Harding left his foot out to take their forward when collecting the ball and the resulting spot kick was put away on 26 minutes.

One piece of class brought them level before the break as Lee Westwood got the perfect connection to a lethal cross.

Parker's late lunge on 53 minutes meant instant dismissal but although down to 10 men, Crewe rediscovered their football with Westwood, Brown and Hanson all only denied by top draw saves from the Styal number one.

Westwood was also lucky to stay on the pitch after furious appeals for a late penalty as the visitors hung on for a point.

"It was a bit disappointing and our heads weren't really on it," admitted O'Reilly.

"Whether it was the highs of beating Barnton last week or not, there's no excuse.

"We suffered through a lack of discipline, we had five booked and one sent off.

"When things aren't going right, you have to dig in and keep playing, not blame everyone else.

"We should have took three points and it's a chance missed."

Crewe FC could have moved up into sixth in Mid Cheshire Division One and O'Reilly is looking for better when Golborne Sports arrive on Saturday.

"I'm hoping for the right response," he added.

"We've not played them yet and we've got to approach it with the right attitude.

"I'm moaning and we've only lost three in 19 so that shows how far we've come.

"The lads know they let themselves down against Styal and they'll want to put it right."

Officials from the North West Counties League will visit the Cumberland Stadium next week as the club look to the future.

"It'll be a big week for us and it will be good to know what's required if we get an opportunity to move up," he concluded.
