ONCE again the anti-speed lobby are shooting their mouths off with comments way wide of the mark.

Janice 'makes mine boil' Blood stated in last week's Warrington Guardian that slowing down saves petrol - bunkum!

The speed at which fuel is burned most efficiently is 56 mph. I am not suggesting that we all drive round at that speed, I am merely stating a fact.

In my opinion there are two main reasons why this town is going downhill like a Bavarian skier.

Firstly, the council's crass road policy in refusing to build major highways around the town, leading to rat runs that the council then makes worse by slowing down traffic on the rat run that it created!

Secondly, the blame culture that we live in, where the motorist is always at fault, when probably most of the time people ought to go back to basics, learn the Green Cross Code and look where they are going!

This council now needs to have a very serious re-think on policy and get rid of these monstrous speed bumps that are the bane of so many lives.

There are many and varying ways to calm traffic without destroying the personal property of someone else (i.e. their car).

I am also very surprised and disappointed to see such an outstanding member of local government as Clr Mike Hannon voicing his approval of speed bumps. Wake up and smell the Tarmac, Mike!
