SO we are not to have speed bumps in Smith Drive and Withers Avenue as reported in the Warrington Guardian (March 25.)

Why doesn't the borough council just remove the restricted access signs also as these are totally ignored and ineffectually enforced.

I find some of the arguments used against speed bumps contentious.

As a bus driver I find no problem with the square type speed bump as the track of the vehicle is wide enough to negotiate it without damage or discomfort.

Also why should the taxi-driving lobby have such a disproportionate influence, objecting against the 20mph limit, when their legitimate use of said thoroughfares must be minimal.

As for the Warrington cycle campaigners, surely the bumps were not proposed for the pavements! (Joke!)

Seriously, I agree with the Mersey Ambulance spokesman who said speed bumps cut speed and save lives.
