A MAN has appeared at Northwich Magistrates' Court today, Thursday, charged in connection with a fire at Morrisons supermarket in Winsford on Tuesday.

Raymond Cartwright, 36 , of Alexandra Square, Winsford, was charged with two separate counts of arson endangering both life and property at the Nat Lane-based warehouse.

He also faces one charge of obtaining pecuniary advantage through deception.

Magistrates decided not to allow Mr Cartwright bail and his next appearance in relation to the offences will be at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, April 27.

It took 10 fire engines and 60 firefighters to extinguish the blaze at Morrisons, which started at around 2am in the morning and totally gutted the warehouse.

Although the fire did not spread to the supermarket itself, the store remains closed temporarily.
