THE Boteler Grammar School Old Boys Union took part in its 479th Founders Day Service at St Elphin's Church, Howley.

Rev Andrew Welsby, who was an old boy from 1972 until 1979, held the ecumenical service on Thursday, and was assisted by the Rev Michael Finlay, the Rector of Warrington.

John Gatley, secretary of the union, said: "We were delighted to use the Thomas Boteler Chapel. We are especially pleased that an old boy officiated and continued the recent tradition."

Refreshments were served in the Ring o'bells pub after the service and the collection was donated to the Thomas Boteler Chapel and the Organ Restoration Fund. The Boteler Grammar School Old Boys Union was founded on April 16, 1526.
