EVERTONIAN Michael Gavin achieved a lifetime's ambition on Good Friday by scoring at the Gwladys Street end in front of nearly 40,000 fans.

It was half time in Everton's 3-1 win over Tottenham when Michael, from Brookvale, Runcorn, took place in the club's Pay the Penalty competition.

He stood to win £1,000 if he scored - with the keeper looking to claim the cash prize if he saved it.

But after a couple of weeks practising with his little brother and studying Everton's penalty taker David Unsworth, Michael slotted it into the bottom corner.

Michael laughed: "I have already been telling people I've already scored one more than Kevin Campbell this season and he gets £33,000 a week."

Michael, along with the goalkeeper, entered the Pay the Penalty competition, created by Peter Farrell, which gives fans a chance to score a penalty at Goodison Park and raise money for the youth team at the same time.

"I felt confident because I think the penalty taker has more of a chance than the keeper," said the Osprey Close resident.

"I wasn't really nervous but the excitement built when I went on the pitch. And to score at the Gwladys Street end was unbelievable.

"It was the greatest day of my life, I couldn't sleep the night before."

Michael, 19, went to his first Everton game when he was two and has had a season ticket for 13 years.

He plans to put his winnings towards next year's season tickets for his dad, himself and his three brothers.
