Warrington Grange 3

Preston North End 4

WARRINGTON Grange women's soccer side fell at the last hurdle in their bid to reach the final of the North West Women's League Cup.

They gave themselves an uphill task in their semi-final thriller with Preston North End by conceding two goals in the first 20 minutes.

But Warrington pulled a goal back before half-time when Sarah Drury pounced on a defensive mistake and coolly slotted the ball under Preston's goalkeeper.

The goal gave Grange renewed confidence. They started the second half brightly and were rewarded when Rachel Nolan latched on to a through ball and netted to level the scores.

Grange were given a further boost when Nolan chipped Preston's goalkeeper but there was to be no happy ending.

Preston equalised and secured their place in the final with a stunning free kick from the edge of the penalty area.

The player of the match for Grange, who play Chorley away on Tuesday and Preston at home on Sunday, kick-off 2pm, was Cathy Jones.
