SPARTAK produced the biggest shock in years to claim Warrington Soccer League's Depot Cup in sensational fashion.

Playing in the first final in their history, Spartak were widely considered to be the under dogs against General Chemicals but they produced their best football since their promotion run a year ago to clinch victory after extra time.

The modest crowd at St Albans were shocked by how well Spartak absorbed Chemical's best attacks

Steve Molyneux fired Spartak into a late lead only for Mike Garland to force extra time. Then in the last minute of extra time Spartak skipper Dave Fallon produced a decisive finish to settle the match.

Meanwhile, St Michaels secured the Frontrunner Premier Division title with a formidable 3-0 win at Haydock.

The challenges of their rivals have imploded with Eagle Sports unable to win at Fearnhead and Moore United emerging from two games with only a point.

Outsiders Penlake were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Beeches and Saints' 40-point total can no longer be bettered.

Fearnhead raced into a two-goal lead against Eagle courtesy of Guardian Cup hero Rob Hanley and strike partner Johnny Brennon.

But with less than five minutes remaining Eagle regained the initiative thanks to a penalty.

Eagle then found an equaliser and would probably have won the game had more time been available.

Moore United produced a tame display against Mid-Cheshire bound Billinge.

The 3-0 defeat represented Moore's worst performance in months.

They had produced a much better battling performance in midweek to draw with Whiston. The 2-2 score line was indicative of an entertaining show.

Vulcan were crowned Division One champions in midweek but the runners-up spot has yet to be resolved.

Moorfield finished their campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Lymm Rangers.

Danny Sisson claimed both of Rangers' goals.

The result went some way to ease the pain of Rangers' Altrincham Cup final defeat in midweek.

Rangers lost 2-1 to Broad Heath Central after a bruising encounter. Sisson hit Rangers' solitary goal.

Vicars secured mid table respectability with a 1-0 win against third-placed Downall Green.

Vicars legend Ian Senior was the goal scoring hero.

Downall need to win their last game to jump above Moorfield into second spot.

Monk Sports' Jekyll and Hyde form continued with a 2-1 victory over Rainhill Town. They were indebted to goals by Hales and Jarvis.

General Chemicals look set to reel in Halton Borough at the top of Division Two having hit championship form since the start of the New Year.

Chemicals moved closer to the second division title with a decisive win at Orford Youth Centre.

Goals by Tony Darbyshire, two and Alan Maguire tested Chemicals' resolve but a brace by Craig Beech and further strikes by Jon McDonald, Peter Dorgan and John Kennedy secured a vital 5-3 success.

Spartak suffered a hangover from their cup exploits.

Andy Duxbury found the net for Spartak but Burtonwood Albion ran out 2-1 winners.

Runcorn Albion hit Matthiola for four with the goals shared by Peter Bazley, Peter Houghton, Kenny Newby and Paul Molly.

Silver Birch moved closer to securing the Reserve Division Three title despite struggling in midweek.

Their 6-4 win against Moorfield Thirds pushed them to within a point of leaders Eagle Thirds.
