CAN any team end the dominance of King and Queen A or St Oswalds A in this year's Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association campaign?

The new Friday League season kicks off tomorrow, Friday and the Monday League term starts three days later.

King and Queen are the holders of the Monday crown but won the Friday title the year before. It was the other way round for the St Oswalds men.

Both squads are strong again and it would take a brave gambler to bet against the top flight silverware going anywhere else.

It will be interesting to see if the change of scoring system, as accepted at the annual meeting, will have any affect on the way the season pans out.

The more complex Monday system will be taken on by the Friday League, ending a one year trial of points for each chalk scored.

In any one match, one point will be awarded for each winning player and a further two points if the home team wins, or three points if the away team wins. If a game ends in a draw, the home team will receive one additional point and the away side two additional points.

A new team has joined the Association this season, which is pleasing to the organising committee.

Chairman Ted Green said: "Pavilions have joined us. They are a Runcorn team and I think it is a compliment to our association that teams from out of the town wish to take part in our League."

The successful Centenary Trophy floodlit competition introduced to mark the 100 years celebrations will continue again this year as an end of season handicap competition that has replaced the previously traditional League Championship finale. Smithys were the inaugural winners.
