A FORMER Warrington schoolboy, who was bullied after moving to Scotland, killed his father in a crazed attack with two samurai swords, a court has heard.

Daniel Leather, aged 17, told his mother that Satan had made him do it and that he had stabbed his dad six times before killing him.

The High Court in Glasgow was told on Friday that Leather's behaviour had become increasingly bizarre since moving to Scotland in 1995 where he was bullied because of his accent. He began giving his family Nazi salutes before the attack on his father, John, who was training in child care and psychology.

After pleading guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide (manslaughter) on the grounds of diminished responsibility because he suffered from a depressive mental illness, sentencing was adjourned.

William Hold, a 74-year-old family friend from Wadeson Way in Croft, visited Leather in jail after the killing.

He said: "Daniel was never a violent boy and he was always happy as a child. The whole thing is so tragic and has torn the family apart."

The court heard that Leather, from Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, was disarmed during the bloodbath in November last year by his 49-year-old father but returned with a larger samurai sword and continued the attack.

When his mother, Margaret, returned home hours later he grabbed her around the neck and wrestled her to the ground, warning her that he could kill her.

He told her he needed money to get out of the country and ordered her to accompany him to a cash machine. When they went into a shop, she managed to mouth a message for help and the police arrested Leather.

Defence barrister Donald Findlay QC, said two psychiatrists found that Leather had a depressive illness that gave him a belief his parents hated him.

The case was adjourned for sentencing by temporary judge Colin MacAuley QC to await background reports.
