Mrs Joyce Thornton died of cancer on March 20, aged 79.

Mrs Thornton, of Cavendish Close, Old Hall, formerly of Knowsley, was born in Shipley, West Yorkshire.

She was employed in the weaving sheds during and after the Second World War in Baildon and Shipley, West Yorkshire.

On moving to Knowsley she was a cook for many years for the local police force, before retiring to live in Warrington.

Mrs Thornton belonged to many clubs, and worked as a volunteer for the Tuesday Club, cooking lunches for fellow pensioners.

She enjoyed watching all sports, knitting, and travelling to various places on holiday with friends.

She leaves three children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service was held on March 26 at Walton Lea, followed by cremation. The Rev Graham Houghton officiated.
