Mrs Doreen May Balmer, wife of the late Mr Peter Balmer, died of complications following surgery on March 17. She was 78.

Mrs Balmer, of Stocks Lane, Penketh, formerly of Ramsgate, and West Derby, Croxteth Park, was born in Ramsgate, Kent.

She was a farmer's wife for most of her life, and lived at Stand Farm on the Earl of Sefton's estate at Croxteth Park. She was a cook at Holly Lodge Girls' School, and eventually head cook at Ellergreen Comprehensive School, then moved to a farm near Ramsgate, before returning to the north west in 1961, living and working on Lord Sefton's farms.

Mrs Balmer enjoyed gardening and making floral displays.

She leaves two daughters and a son.

A service was held on March 24 at Walton Lea, followed by cremation.
