INCENSED residents are threatening to blockade the new Peelhouse Lane link road if offices are built facing their homes.

Families in Denton Street say they were promised a former playground would be landscaped - instead they've discovered developers plan to construct a two storey office block.

"It used to be a park," said Diane Roberts. "We were told it would be landscaped. Now, we've found out it's going to be offices. I'll sell my house if they do that."

Angry residents told developers they didn't want offices to be built at a public meeting.

Widnes Regeneration Limited, a joint venture between Halton Council and St Modwen Properties has confirmed a commercial development is in the pipeline.

A Halton Council spokesperson, said: "A possible commercial development coupled with extensive landscaping and the provision of extra car parking for residents was discussed with Denton Street residents.

"A council officer, members of the council and a representative of St Modwen Properties were present. It was made clear to the residents that their comments will be taking into account before any decision is taken on the future of the site."

Residents also fear a proposed bus shelter on the new road would attract nightclubbers to congregate and cause a nuisance.

The council says shelters are only provided 'to protect local people and improve the quality and use of public transport'.
