NORTHWICH Vics have yet to find a suitable candidate for the vacant manager's position.

So far Vics have received a number of applications, but none of the prospective managers have fit the bill.

Chairman Dave Stone said: "We've had nine applications and CVs come in to the office, but there has been no-one special yet. No-one has hit us as being the right man for the job."

And Stone has quashed the rumours linking a number of high profile managers with the club.

He added: "We haven't heard anything from Steve Burr.

"I know he was at the last match, but he was only there watching the game as were Gary Simpson and Dalton Steele - none of them have applied for the job as yet.

"For some the season only finsihed this weekend so it is too early to speculate."

And it is not only the fate of the new manager that hangs in the balance.

Many of this season's players are in limbo - not knowing who will be in charge next term or even if they will be involved.

Steve Garvey, Phil Brazier, Richard Norris, Mark Devlin, Chris Thompson and Shaun Came are all contracted for another year while an extra year's option has been taken on Mark Foran and Andy Ralph.

This gives Vics a solid backbone for their first season in the Conference North but the remaining players from this year's squad are all either out of contract or with the club on a non-contract basis meaning they are free to go to other clubs if they wish.

A spokesman for the club said: "We've yet to talk to the other players at the club such as Glenn Tolley and it's unlikely that anything will be done before the new manager takes over."

This will give the new man a certain amount of freedom although he could lose out if players move on.
