THE culmination of two years work by arty school children, detailing the industrial and natural history of Anderton Nature Park, is going on public display.

More than 100 pupils from Comberbach Primary School participated in the exciting arts project, which has produced poetry, a giant tapestry, paintings, photographs and a mosaic.

Members of the community and local artists, including Cheshire's first poet laureate Harry Owen and photographer Cathy Mathias, were also drafted in to help.

Brunner Mond provided access to its photography archive dating back to the 1800s.

The children's work is now on display at Brunner Mond's headquarters and will move to the Anderton Boat Lift visitor centre in May.

Brunner Mond's Stan Lalley visited one of the children's art workshops on Thursday to view the final pieces of art being completed.

Photographer Cathy Mathias and Ann Bates of the Weaver Valley Initiative - one of the bodies funding the project - were also present.

Janet Groom, Comberbach Primary School headteacher, said the school had been associated with Anderton Nature Park for eight years but had never done such a massive project before.

She said: "It has been a wonderful experience.

"It has been absolutely brilliant. What I like about the project is the fact that the children are working with people in the community who are not necessarily attached to the school, who are interested in the history of Anderton.

"These are people they would not necessarily come across.

"This has brought in so many different skills, which they have been able to experience."

She added: "What an opportunity this has been for them.

"This is real education in the real world."
