I WOULD like to know how withholding your identity when writing into the World's letters pages is not conducive to democratic discussion?

If a person has a view, no matter whether person 'B' agrees with that view, it does not mean that person 'A' has to have their identity revealed.

So long as what is being written is not illegal, it is purely an opinion.

I would like to know if the World, have been 'leaned on', by people of this borough who do not like reading what is written in the letters pages, especially when the letters are not attached to a particular name and address.

It seems to me no coincidence that the council has been getting some stick of late, also the Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership and now we have, in my opinion, a violation of a person's human rights to privacy.

I feel it is a person's right to anonymity and this right should not be walked over just because somebody disagrees with what that person is saying.

Just because a large amount of people prefer to keep their identities secret, this does not mean they should be prevented from contributing to a discussion.

l The Runcorn & Widnes Worlds would never be 'leaned on' by anyone. The facility for readers to withold their name and address is still in place - editor
