I AM writing regarding the latest comments on the new and existing Mersey crossings in the World on April 28.

First of all, I agree that the use of the existing bridge as a local one could be a good idea but don't understand why money should be wasted converting it back to a two lane bridge.

The four lanes exist so they may as well stay.

Reducing to two lanes will still cause congestion in the event of an accident or breakdown.

With regards to the new crossing hoping to be toll free, I feel it would be beneficial to have both bridges as toll bridges with the exception to local residents or businesses.

The reason our bridge gets so congested is mostly because traffic will use our bridge to avoid going through the Liverpool tunnels where they have to pay.

By giving our bridges a toll to outsiders using them as a bypass it would cut down on a lot of traffic and lorries and generate some income to help with the upkeep.
